Mneseek instructions of use

Can I use Mneseek without subscribing ?

Yes, of course. You can use Mneseek as a visitor, to use it as an instrument that permits you to explore the web. On the homepage of the website, you will find our latest contributions in chronological order. From the homepage, you can also access the thematic sections of the site (art, philosophy), the most viewed contributions, the most voted contributions, and thematic collections.

Nevertheless, subscribing will give you access to a number of important functions, most importantly, to post links.

How and why should I subscribe?

Subscription to Mneseek allows you to post links on the website.

Subscription to Mneseek is easy: click on the "Subscribe" link in the upper right of the homepage and fill out the subscription form. You will then be asked to confirm your subscription by going to your e-mail inbox. That's it! There's nothing left to do but start!

Can I modify my personal information?

All information that you've entered while subscribing and that makes up your profile is modifiable. To modify this information, go to the "My space" section, located in the upper right-hand side of the menu, then click on the "Modify my personal information" link. You will then be able to correct the saved data. Caution: you should confirm these changes by accessing your inbox. If you wish to change your nickname, click where it says "I want to change my nickname."

How do I post a link?

Once subscribed, go to the "My space" section, accessible from the menu in the upper right-hand side of the website. You will need to enter your nickname and your password. If you have forgotten one of these pieces of information, click on "Connection problem" and enter your e-mail address. Your identification information will be sent to you by e-mail.

Once logged in, click on "Add a page". You will have a form to fill out.

Start by copy/pasting the web address that you would like to post. To do this, you can open a second tab in your browser, find the webpage that interests you, select the html address, in the address bar of your browser, and finally copy said address (click on the right button of your mouse and then click on "Copy"). Next, return to the tab with Mneseek, click on the "Address" field, and paste the address (click on the right button of your mouse and click "Paste").

"Is this a link to a video?": If the link in question leads to a YouTube page, dailymotion page, or any other page that contains video, click "Yes".

"Title": Give a title to your contribution. You can inspire yourself by looking at titles that are already posted on the website.

"Topic": Choose a topic. If no topic corresponds to your link, click on "More topics" and select a topic from the second list, to the right of the first.

Important: If the link that you post fits in multiple topics, you may mention these additional topics as keywords (see below). Your link will appear in the thematic sections corresponding to these topics.

"Keywords": The association of keywords to your contribution allows users who are carrying out a search (at the upper right-hand side of the website), to find said contribution. These keywords should be words (in all lower case letters, separated by a space) that define your link. For example, for a link to a page about Canadian sled dogs, you can enter the following keywords: dog canada sled cold winter animals. Please be as precise as possible in regards to the keywords that you choose. For a link to the topic of the film "Skirt Day", with Isabelle Adjani, you can enter the keywords: isabelle adjani day skirt film education teaching. Caution: Using the keyword "teaching" which is a theme of the film, will also classify your link in the "teaching" topic of the website.

"I authorize the editors of mneseek.fr to add one or more images to my contribution": You have the possibility, via your "my space" page to add images to your contributions. However, if you don't use this function, it could be beneficial for the website for an administrator of the website to do so. If it's important to you to add an image yourself, click on "no".

"Comments": You have the possibility (but not the obligation) to leave comments on links that you post. You can inspire yourself by looking at the comments on links already present on the website. This little text should not exceed 2000 characters.

Once this form is filled out, click on "Send". You'll receive a confirmation message and your contribution should appear on the homepage.

How can I create a collection?

Just as you would do to post a link, go to the "My space" section (see above). Click on "Create a collection" and fill out the form (see above). You should select the contributions (links or sub-collections) that will make up your collection. To do this, select a link (square window on the left in the middle of the page) and click on the arrow (between the two windows) to add to your collection. Repeat the operation for each link or sub-collection that you wish to select.

Once the form is filled out, click on "Send". Your collection will appear in the list of collections (homepage, right column).

Can I modify or delete my contributions?

It is possible for you to modify or delete one or more of your contributions. From your private page ("My space" section), click on "My contributions". Select the contribution (link or collection) that you wish to modify or delete, then click on "Modify" (a pre-filled form will come up and you can modify the information linked to this contribution) or click on "Delete" (your contribution will be definitively deleted from the website).

How can I post a comment on a link?

Under each contribution (see homepage) you can find a link of functions, including the function to post a comment. Click on the "Comment" link or on the link that tells the number of comments (for example: "2 comments"). A dialogue box will then appear below the link. If you are already logged into the website, you can then leave a comment. If you aren't yet subscribed or you aren't logged in, two links will be proposed: "Connect" or "Subscribe".

Can I write a message to a contributor?

In addition to comments that you can post on links (visible by all users), you can also send a private message to one contributor or another (he or she will be the only person able to access this message). Among the list of functions associated with each contribution (under the description), you can find, to the right of the name of the author, an envelope icon on which you can click. If you are already logged into the website, this click will send you to your private message box, where you need only write the message that you wish to send to said contributor.

How can I view all of the contributions of a contributor?

Below each contribution you can find the nickname of the author (in purple). Click on the nickname and a page will open that is dedicated to the contributor in question, with his or her profile, and the list of his or her contributions. You can also click on the nickname of a contributor in the column at the right-hand side of the website (homepage).

How can I add images to links that I've posted?

On the homepage of your page ("My profile") you can find an icon in the form of a framed painting. Click on this link and a page will open where you can add images. Choose the contribution that you would like to link to an image from the column on the left, then fill out the form that can be found on the right. We strongly suggest that you use Wikimedia Commons images. To find out more about submission of images, consult the following page:

How does my message box work?

Once you've subscribed, you can access your private message box from the homepage of your space ("My space" link in the menu at the top-right). The access link is found at the bottom-right of the page.

The mneseek messenger is made up of the typical sections in a messenger: an "Inbox" section, a "Sent" section, and a "Send a message" section. You should click on the title of a message to view its content. It is possible for you to delete messages from your message box (Inbox and sent messages) by clicking on the red X to the left of the messages. Furthermore, you can save certain messages by clicking on the floppy disk icon to the left of the messages. To find these "archived" messages, click on the little floppy disk that can be found at the top-right of the main window.

The "send a message" section allows you to send messages not only to users of the website, but also to e-mail addresses outside of the website. To facilitate the delivery of messages, you may, if you wish, create an "address book" accessible afterwards from your Outbox (to the left of "To"). Finally, you can create mailing lists (to send group messages).

What are the other functions of the web site?

Below each contribution, for example on the homepage, you can find a list of functions. To the left of this link, you can find a small red circle. Clicking on this circle will allow you to report to the mneseek team that the contribution in question has a problem (a spelling mistake, a broken link) or abusive content (for example content that doesn't adhere to the General Terms and Conditions of the website).
